CLINICIAN & EDUCATOR SUPPORT

OUR ADVOCACY EFFORTS

13thirty is a complementary, vital resource outside of the hospital that provides relief from the psychosocial challenges of AYA cancer.

Let’s Work Together!

To 13thirty Cancer Connect, advocacy is a dedication to improved service delivery to AYAs living with cancer. Our efforts in improving service delivery include workshops and special presentations available for two main groups who support our AYAs – healthcare providers and educators.

Let’s work together. 13thirty is a complementary, vital resource outside of the hospital that provides relief from the psychosocial challenges of AYA cancer.

Special Presentations

Our in-school presentations help educators understand how to best support students while they are absent and when returning to school. Presentations are also available to make students aware of cancer risk factors and how to support a peer with cancer.

We value the support educators give our AYAs as they transition from school to treatment and back to school and look. AYAs often experience devastating isolation and loss of peer support. Diminished self-image and self-esteem can make returning to school difficult. Classmates and friends are unsure how to be supportive.

Let’s collaborate! Our Community Engagement Manager, Michaela Deeg, is ready to tell her story as an AYA survivor and how 13thirty can make a difference for your students: michaela@13thirty.org

Clinician Workshops

We value the support healthcare providers give our AYAs during treatment and want to continue to stay connected. Our workshops help healthcare providers better understand the unique challenges of AYAs cancer, including delayed diagnosis and on-going medical issues.

Clinician workshops are led by our Program Director, Katelyn MacDougall, MSW, LCSW. For more information on our upcoming workshops, email katelyn@13thirty.org.

The Road I Followed

A kit to help AYAs walk to the end of their road proud of the life they’ve lived and at peace with themself and those they love.

Your patient may have deep thoughts about their life and death that they want to share or just think about. They may want to reflect on what their life has meant to them and how they want to to be remembered. We hope this kit will make this a little easier.

The Road I Followed can be used in whatever way makes sense to them – a workbook, journal, stationary – it’ll be here when they’re ready.

To request copies, email lauren@13thirty.org.

Louis D’Amanda III Young Investigator Award

We received a major legacy gift in honor of beloved 13thirty member, Louis D’Amanda III who died in 2015 at 24 years old. Proceeds from a charitable trust, on behalf of Louis’ great uncle, Dr. Christopher D’Amanda, were directed to us.

Earnings from this gift will support the Louis D’Amanda III Early-Stage Investigator Award – a one-year grant, up to $10,000, for an AYA researcher in Western and Central New York.
